Make time for the eastern shore: choose a short section of the Clarence Foreshore Trail or explore the headland on takara limuna / Sheoak Walk.

Staying in Geilston Bay puts Hobart's eastern shore on your itinerary. You do not need to plan a full day of walking: choose a route and turnaround point that suit your group, then leave room for a relaxed afternoon back at the apartment.

Choose a section of the Clarence Foreshore Trail

The City of Clarence describes a roughly 14.5-kilometre route between Geilston Bay and Howrah, with shorter sections along the way. Geilston Bay to Lindisfarne is one option to investigate when planning a local outing. The wider trail follows the Derwent foreshore through bays and parkland.

Surfaces vary between concrete and narrower gravel sections, so check the particular stretch you intend to use rather than assuming the whole route has the same surface. It is a shared trail: allow space for other walkers and riders, and follow local signs.

Take a look at takara limuna / Sheoak Walk

Accessed via the Shag Bay Track, takara limuna follows the Bedlam Walls headland, with a viewing platform and views across the Derwent. The named headland trail is about 700 metres; allow additional distance and time for the approach and return from your chosen starting point. It is a walking-only trail.

Plan the outing, not just the destination

Check the current route map, weather and any local notices before setting off. Bring a layer and drinking water, and choose a shorter outing if that better suits your group. The official City of Clarence trails information and Discover Tasmania's takara limuna listing are useful starting points. You will also find walking ideas and planning links in our Local guide.
